04/04/2018 Trip Notes: Today Jim Herring and I decided to hike the Calico Tank hike. Even though the day started out overcast, it was in the 80's and quite comfortable and cleared by the end of the hike. Because the Sandstone Quarry is the first thing you come to we stopped here so Jim could take a couple of pictures. Because there isn't really anything new that isn't shown below, I didn't take any additional pictures

10/11/2012 Trip Notes: Today’s trip with the rock-hounds from the Henderson Heritage Park Senior Center took us to Red Rock Canyon. Confronted with severe rains on our way to the park, we were extremely doubtful that we would get in any hiking at all today. Upon our arrival, we spent nearly 45-minutes inside the visitor center waiting for the rains to stop. Even though the rains abated somewhat as we began our drive around the 11-mile scenic loop, the weather, as can be seen in (Fig. 01), appeared very threatening. This location was the second of three planned stops we made along Scenic Loop Road.  As we began the hike along the water filled trail (Fig. 02) to the quarry, it provided us with a good view of Turtle Head Peak. Though the actual quarry (Fig. 03) appeared to be rather small in size, there were dozens of large quarried pieces lying about (Figs. 4 thru 6). Had this quarry been successful, how much of Red Rock Canyon would be left today? Restricted by time, we were only able to walk a relatively short distance beyond the quarry, however, in spite of the bad weather that covered the mountains, the colorful views of this area (Figs. 7 & 8) made us want for more. This is definitely an area we will have to return to in the future.
