 This past week, my friend Blake Smith and I traveled to Calico Basin on the outskirts of the Red Rock National Conservation Area on the northwest end of the city. Even though we had both been here several times in the past, we decided it would make for a pleasant morning hike. It was a beautiful sunny morning in the mid 70’s filled with fresh air and dozens of beautiful budding cacti and wildflowers. On this visit we drove to the northern end of the area and hike along Ash Creek Spring and the base of its northern mountain ranges.
