06/20/2012 Trip Notes: On the third day of our camping trip to Spring Valley State Park, north of Pioche, NV, we made a daytrip to Kershaw-Ryan State Park and Rainbow Canyon. We were both amazed at how beautiful this small park was and really enjoyed hiking along the high ridges, several hundred feet above the park. Click the map above to better see our hiking route. A series of winding switchbacks helped to ease the trails’ 360 foot elevation gain. Panel 01 (Top) is a picture taken only halfway up our more than one mile hike to the summit. Below are three pictures taken along the route. Panel 02 is a view eastward taken just beyond the trailhead showing the massive trees and grapevine covered canyon as you look up at the cliff-side we are about to hike. Panel 03 is a southeast view looking down on the wash that feeds into the park. At nearly 5,000 feet, Panel 04 is a picture looking down on the park from the end of the Canyon Overlook Trail at the summit. | ||
The remaining pictures are just a few random shots taken in the upper portion of the park showing the small wading pool, picnic area and a few of the surrounding flowers. Without a doubt, this is the best place in the surrounding area to enjoy a picnic lunch and an afternoon of quiet relaxation. |
